Hi @Marserena, welcome to HelpBerkeley.org, and thanks very much for volunteering!, Our dispatchers have made you a meal logistics volunteer, so now you can access the meal logistics category on the website.
When and what tasks would work best for you? We have three types of volunteer positions in meal logistics—we could use more volunteers in each category (children are welcome to attend with their parents for all shifts):
Meal prep: we prep meals on Sundays from 12:30am to 3:30pm (morning and afternoon shifts possible) in a very large hall, with 30-foot ceilings and industrial ventilation, under the supervision of our Chef Alan (we also cook meals 9:30am-12:30pm on Mondays but need fewer volunteers then).
Food packing: we pack and clean on Mondays from 11:30am to 2:30pm, in the same place, in a very congenial atmosphere!
Pickup management: we prepare driver pickup and load deliveries, outdoors, on Mondays between 1:30pm and 4:00pm.
Thanks so much again for volunteering with us: we look forward to your response!
Thank you very much for joining us the team BPC at Help Berkeley! I am Akemi @sakemif, Leon Schubert(6p)'s mom and Chetana @tweety7721 Vikram(7th) mom can also help if you have any questions! I am there in the kitchen with Leon most Sundays. He really enjoys chopping veggies with our chef Alan. I also help in the kitchen + help loading cars on Monday afternoons until Leon walks over from school. My weekly exercise! Which shift would you be interested in? If you can reply to me in this email, which role and how often(eg. Monday pickup, twice a month), I will add you to the scheduling calendar. 2022 logistics availability (please log in to see)
Available days are marked with Y, and not available days are marked with color red.
Reminders like this will be sent out to the volunteers a few days in advance.
Please let us know, if anything is unclear.
Thank you, Akemi (Leon 6P) and Chetana (Vikram 7th)
I appreciate the message and intro to this program–it seems like such a great opportunity to help out and also to get the kids into the action, too! That’s so great that Leon has been helping with it! Dustin says he’d like to try too, though he’s a little afraid of the chopping part! I think it’s good practice.
I believe I was added to the scheduling calendar–I can see my name–but thanks for checking to make sure it’s official. The chart seems to say that only “blue” can be added by a coordinator. So I gave my availability using a “yes” but it’s not in blue. How do I know that I’m confirmed for those times–by email reminder as you said? I’ll probably sometimes come with Dustin and sometimes just me. Possibly also my husband sometimes. Do you think that is okay or could it potentially be too many people? I think it will probably end up being a couple of times a month with everything else going on (plus we share a car).
Wish I could do the Monday prepping but have work in the afternoon.
Thanks so much for letting us know about this program!
Thanks for your sweet message and updating the calendar!
I think in March, we will lift the Omicron limitation and there can be more volunteers in the kitchen, so please bring along Dustin and/or your husband! Leon and another 6th grader Theo were very shy and serious, not talking to each other, just focusing on the tasks for the first 2 sessions, but they got more confident and sometimes they have too much fun especially during the cleanup(after the snack). They love punching down cardboard boxes to fit in the recycle bins!
We will be sending the reminder to everyone indicated with Y for that week on Friday. You will be receiving the reminder via email. If your schedule changes, feel free to update the calendar, or reply to the reminder!
Can’t wait to see you and Dustin there in March! It’s great he wants to try! I had to bribe Leon with more screen time the first time.
Thank you, Akemi
Hope all is well with you. I am sorry I didn’t let you know in advance that we would not be there on Sunday. We were travelling during the ski week and upon return, Leon came down with fever and missed school the entire week following the break. He has been negative both antigen and PCR but we wanted to refrain from meeting anyone indoor so we stayed at home.
We will be back in the kitchen this week. Would you guys be available too?
Take care, Akemi
