Please volunteer to drive by posting here

Hi @Benlkane, welcome to the site!

I have made you a driver, so now you can access the driver-only subcategories (subcats) on the website.

Below is a link to a helpful post for new drivers to ramp up and learn more. If you have any questions, there are also FAQ’s in the driver subcats, or you can create a new post.

The next step is to tell us when your schedule fits to drive, and how often you can drive. I’ll tag you in the driver availability thread, and you can see how to do that there. I see that you already told us your weekly schedule, but it’s probably worth checking out for future reference. Don’t worry, all delivery runs start after 5  .

Thank you for again for volunteering your time with us, we’re glad to have you on board!

I would like to volunteer to drive about once a week. I live in Berkeley and have a car.
I work, so I’m not always available during weekdays; it depends on whether I have meetings. I am generally available on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays after 10am. Sometimes on Saturdays.

W normally ask us to share your availability, but you already did it! I will tag you in the availability thread, so that you know where it is, but I will fill the spreadsheet based on what you wrote above already.

Driver training is going on, on Zoom, Thursday at 11:00am, 4:00pm: and 8:00pm what would work best for you? If none of the times work for you, you can have a look here and see all the upcoming dates:

Can you sign up for the session that will work best for you? For that, just answer the thread above.

How many days per week would you like to volunteer to drive, on average?

Thanks, KaelanTdT! I’m looking forward to helping with the driving.

What times are the driving shifts?

All the normal shifts are in the late afternoon, hitting the first restaurant around 5:15-5:30. Most runs last about 1:45 hours from home to home but occasionally they can be longer.

We do have special runs during the day, but they are rare. They typically involve delivering a large number of meals to a specific assisted living facility: point to point only. We always ask the drivers if they are willing to take them. Of course, we only schedule drivers when they tell us that they are available and willing

The regular delivery runs are very rewarding: our consumers are truly wonderful people!

Thanks so much for volunteering with us!

Thanks, that changes my availability–I was assuming it would be mostly during the work day. I updated my row in the google spreadsheet.

Hi @aidanalex01, welcome to HelpBerkeley.org and thanks very much for volunteering!

You are a friend of Anna: she is absolutely terrific, and a great driver!!! I already created an entry for you in the availability spreadsheet: since we run our normal runs, you are open everyday, that is GREAT! Can you complete the spreadsheet (see link below) with (a) how many times per week you can volunteer, and (b) your preferred mode of communications?

Our dispatchers have made you a driver, so now you can access the driver-only subcategories (subcats) on the website.

The next step is to tell us when your schedule fits to drive, and how often you can drive.

The next driver training sessions, on Zoom, are listed on this thread: https://go.helpberkeley.org/t/new-driver-training-this-week/874. Can you reply to the thread and let us know which session you will attend?

Thank you for again for volunteering your time with us, we’re really glad to have you on board!

I’m here to volunteer!

I have a pretty flexible schedule, so let me know about which days need the most help.

As an FYI I only have a bicycle, but I have been carrying 25-50lbs of grocery per week for myself and I have insulated bags for perishable items. It might take me 20-50% longer to deliver than a car, but I am hoping that won’t be an issue! Hills aren’t an issue, but I’d need a bit of advance notice for that as I’ll have to outfit a different bike for deliveries.
