We found out that we are getting a Bay Area Jefferson Award for public service!
Quoting Wikipedia (!): ‘Local winners are ordinary people who do extraordinary things without expectation of recognition. …The Jefferson Awards Foundation is a non-profit organization that “recognizes, inspires and activates volunteerism and public service in communities, workplaces and schools across America.” The Institute was founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard.’
We are very proud to receive this award, which we accept for the organization as a whole, because it highlights the 350+ volunteers that areHelpBerkeley.org. We are a 100% volunteer organization, as grassroots as you can be: we are so pleased to work together in our community to help our neighbors!
Dear Michel, Mary Pat, and all the Volunteers,
Congratulations on the well deserved award! Continued success.
Many thanks for the dedication and service to the community.
Sincerely,
Mary Jacobs
Wishing you heartiest congratulations! This has been a great service to our community. Once this is over, we plan to eat great meals at all your cooperating restaurants. All best to all of you, all the volunteers and eateries!

Hearty Congratulations, Michael. You so deserve this award. I am indebted to HelpBerkeley and it’s dedicated volunteers for keeping me fed during my time with Covid and self-isolation.
Deep gratitude and thanks for all you do.
Again, congratulations on this well deserved recognition.
Congratulations. Well deserved for your dedication to the special needs of the restaurants and seniors during the pandemic. Done with such care and compassion. Thanks so much from Evelyn
